What History Can and Cannot Do
History can only answer certain kinds of questions.
It can give you evidence. It cannot make the decision for you.

They say
None of this proves that Jesus is God or that he rose from the dead.
The scene
No, history hasn't proved Christianity.
The Christian sources are part of the history too. The Gospels are ancient documents, and so are Paul's letters. Being in the Bible doesn't mean everything they report has to be accepted as fact, but it doesn't make them disappear as historical sources either.
We can ask when they were written, what they actually claim and how they compare with the other evidence that survives.
That gets us some distance. Jesus was crucified. Very early, his followers were saying that he had risen and that people had seen him alive. Paul names some of them.
Maybe you aren't convinced. That's okay; I aren't asking you to be.
But if Jesus really rose from the dead, this isn't only a question about something that happened two thousand years ago.
The point
The evidence is on the table. What you do with it is up to you.
