The walk

Into his death

Jesus told his disciples to baptise people.

We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death.

Matthew 28:18-20 · Acts 2:37-41 · Acts 10:44-48 · Romans 6:1-11

The scene

Jesus told his disciples:

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."Matthew 28:19

They did.

When Peter preached in Jerusalem, the people listening were cut to the heart.

"Brothers, what shall we do?"Acts 2:37

Peter said:

"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."Acts 2:38

Those who gladly received his word were baptised.

Later, Peter was still speaking to Cornelius and the people in his house when the Holy Spirit fell on them.

They hadn't been baptised with water yet.

Peter said:

"Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us."Acts 10:47

Then he commanded them to be baptised.

Paul writes:

"Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?"Romans 6:3

"We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life."Romans 6:4

He keeps going:

"our old man was crucified with him"Romans 6:6

And:

"If we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him."Romans 6:8
