Lazarus had been dead four days.

John 11:1-44
The scene
By the time Jesus reached Bethany, Lazarus had been in the tomb four days.
Martha went out to meet him.
"Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn't have died."John 11:21
Jesus told her, "Your brother will rise again."John 11:23
"I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."John 11:24
She believed in a resurrection still to come.
Jesus pointed to himself.
"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die."John 11:25-26
Then he asked her:
"Do you believe this?"John 11:26
Martha answered, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God's Son, he who comes into the world."John 11:27
Before Jesus reached the tomb, he wept.
Then he told them to take away the stone. Martha objected. Lazarus had been dead four days. By now, she said, the body would smell.
Jesus prayed to his Father.
Then he cried with a loud voice:
"Lazarus, come out!"John 11:43
The dead man came out.
His hands and feet were still wrapped, with a cloth around his face.
Jesus said:
"Free him, and let him go."John 11:44
