The Way
Thomas wanted to know the way.
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
John 14:1-11
The scene
Jesus was preparing his disciples for his departure. He told them that he was going to prepare a place for them, and that they knew the way.
Thomas didn't.
"Lord, we don't know where you are going. How can we know the way?"John 14:5
Jesus didn't give him directions.
"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."John 14:6
Then Philip asked:
"Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."John 14:8
Jesus answered:
"Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, 'Show us the Father'? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?"John 14:9-10
Thomas had asked for the way to the Father, and Jesus pointed to himself.
Philip wanted to see the Father.
Jesus pointed to himself again.
