The man
The Whip
Jesus made a whip.
For the zeal of your house consumes me.
John 2:13-22 · Psalm 69:9 · 1 Corinthians 6:19 · 2 Corinthians 6:16-7:1
The scene
Jesus went into the temple and found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, with money changers sitting at their tables. He made a whip out of cords and drove them out, poured out the money changers' coins and overturned their tables.
"Take these things out of here! Don't make my Father's house a marketplace!"John 2:16
His disciples remembered Psalm 69:
"For the zeal of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me."Psalm 69:9
When they asked what sign gave him the authority to do this, Jesus told them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."John 2:19
They thought he meant the building.
John tells us he was speaking about his body.
Later, Paul writes to Christians:
"Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God?"1 Corinthians 6:19
