The claim
What Went Wrong
Most of us aren't murderers.
For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.
Genesis 3 · Romans 3:21-24 · Romans 5:12-19 · James 4:17
They say
I'm a decent person. I've never killed anyone or done anything terrible. Surely Christianity isn't saying that God looks at me the same way as someone who has.
The scene
Not in the sense that you've done the same things.
Genesis begins with God making his creation good. Then humanity distrusts him and disobeys him. Instead of living as his creatures under him, they choose for themselves what God had forbidden.
That's where the Bible's story of sin begins.
Paul writes:
"Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death passed to all men because all sinned."Romans 5:12
"For there is no distinction, for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God."Romans 3:22-23
So think about your own life.
Maybe you've been dishonest because honesty would have cost you, or let somebody carry on believing something that wasn't true when correcting them wasn't in your interest. I've done that. I've lost my temper and hurt people with it too.
And sometimes the wrong is in what we don't do. James writes:
"To him therefore who knows to do good and doesn't do it, to him it is sin."James 4:17
The point
Sin isn't somebody else's problem.

Where have you known what was right and done otherwise?
